Italian Language Courses

The Language
CLIDA's main business remains teaching the Italian language for foreigners and therefore our experience in this field has no precedence.

We can offer short and long term courses in either Survival Italian or fully extended Italian language courses. CLIDA can also offer preliminary Italian language immersion courses prior to commencing their academic semester. The professors have the ability to translate theory into practical application and deal with cross cultural mixes.

Credits for these courses can be examined by each university.

Survival Italian
This course is a fun Italian language course aimed at teaching the student basic phrases pertinent to a brief stay in Italy. The lessons normally span from 3 to 4 lessons per week. Times are coordinated together with each program to ensure that lessons do not coincide with each other.

Special Course for teachers who teach the Italian language abroad as a second langauge

These courses are designed for graduate students or teachers who wish to teach the Italian language as a second language in their country and who need to acquire the proper skills in order to successfully relay language methods and concepts. The course covers:

  • How to evaluate students and perceive their linguistic needs
  • Analysis of the language and language mutation.
  • Italian language reading material and workbooks
  • Supervising a language laboratory
  • Phonetics
  • Tandem practical teaching in classrooms

An excellent way for students to experience life in Italy is by participating in our "Two Cities, One Language" program. The idea of the program is to provide students with a fuller understanding of the regional differences in Italy, while learning Italian in two of the world's most historical cities.

In general, the students start the program by spending three months in Florence and then a further three months at our center in Rome. This is a wonderful way to acclimate one's self to Italian living. Shorter study periods are also possible and this program is offered all year round.

"Before Coming to CLIDA, I had never taken a foreign language class, however after a month of classes, I realized how much I had forgotten about Enlgish, my mother tongue, and learned so much about Italian. Had my prior educational experience encouraged studying a foreign language, I would really be ahead in life today." -Titanya Hughes
